The Portrait

The Portrait Years ago, there was a very wealthy man who, with his devoted young son, shared a passion for art collecting. Together they travelled around the world, adding only the finest art treasures to their collection. Priceless works by Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet and many others adorned the walls of the family estate. The widowed elder man looked on with satisfaction as his only child became an experienced art collector. The son's trained eye and sharp business mind caused his father to beam with pride as they dealt with art collectors around the world. As winter approached, war engulfed the nation, and the young man left to serve his country. After only a few short weeks, his father received a telegram. His beloved son was missing in action. The art collector anxiously awaited more news, fearing he would never see his son again. Within days, his fears were confirmed. The young man had died while rushing a fellow soldier to a medic. Distraught and lonely, the old man ...

The Awakening

The Awakening Awakening, dawn's chorus  Welcoming,  The day new, untouched Waiting to be filled....  And will we paint a rainbow With all its promise Or dull the canvas Sadly seen?  Each day brings its own colours To be chosen, mixed,  Pigments of joy,  Happy moments,  Smiles and laughter....  And which will you choose?  For 'Life' is choice,  We are all painters In our own way,  All needing to create Something of worth,  Of lasting beauty,  Marking our journey....  Footprints in the sand....  The sky today is azure,  The sun warm and golden A filigree of light and shadow-play Through the gently swaying trees.  I clean my brushes,  Choose my palette Of vibrant, living colours,  And begin to fill Today's blank canvas

Slumbering eyes breathing

Slumbering eyes breathing  deeply; basking sweetly in lingering aromas. Ethereal flavors are mesmerizing memories. When the shadows dance, and the flames are still insistent.  For the music in its echoes, in our hearts, still waits for one  more song. All unease has sifted into vapors of the past. Every footstep forward, as we lay beneath the sands of time; Embracing. In the blue of night,  there are spirits singing; and their  smiles are whispers  on the ceiling.

Push The Rock

Push The Rock A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. This the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore, and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain. Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, the devil decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man's weary mind "You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn't budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never going to move it." This gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a fa...

What is Real Success

What is Real Success Everyone wants success, and yet they often don't know when they have it. For most, it is the maddening chase toward a better way of life or more of something. More fame, power, recognition, money, or material stuff. For some, it is the understanding of a loving partner, the love of their child, or the people that they can count on when life throws them a curve. I am coming to believe that success is not more material wealth, but peace, happiness, contentment, and love. Most of all love. Real success is not to be sought after in the outer world, but discovered in your inner world. I am not condemning the stuff of life. We all want the things that life offers. But we don't need as much as we think we do. Sooner or later you will discover that real success is friends, strangers, and anyone who crosses our path. It is kindness shared, support given and received, listening, giving, and caring. These will endure while your car rusts, your toys br...

Savoring the sounds of sweet abandon

Savoring the sounds of sweet abandon, calming stares from beaded eyes. Spirits quilted from the flesh of our becoming, and sultry cinnamon trees that still take root, within. My body emerges from the ashes - soul set ablaze by my own hands. I lust for the sticky residue on my fingers; my plea of guilt to arson in my only home. And murky waters call to me, those devils woken and still disarming. My hands are busy mending broken bones, and my heart still finds the tears to bleed. Blessedly, my stares are inward, and my temple ruins are simply dust within a storm. I wander with the rivers, snaking in between dimensions. And my journey touches barren lands. My spirit shivers as my body sways - Writhing to the rhythm of its violence, a tango with the force within me. Wise eyes of infuriating yellow wait for me to once again, emerge. Oh! I am smitten by the wings on which you fly. A deeper sense of devastation; I release new rations, and supplies. When I tou...
